IPPF Courage Awards 2025

Celebrating Bravery in Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

The IPPF Courage Awards recognize exceptional individuals and organizations that have demonstrated bravery, resilience, and dedication in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights justice (SRHRJ). These awards celebrate the fearless efforts of those who, despite growing opposition, stand firm in ensuring access, inclusion, and dignity for all—especially marginalized communities.

In a climate of increasing global pushback against SRHR, including the resurgence of conservative policies and threats to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the need to acknowledge courageous advocacy and service is more urgent than ever. From influencing policy and improving governance to delivering services on the frontlines, awardees exemplify the power of solidarity, compassion, and action. They are the epitome of leading with love, caring with courage.

Rebranding the IPPF Awards

Starting at the 2025 IPPF General Assembly, the long-standing “IPPF Awards” are being rebranded as the IPPF Courage Awards. The new name emphasizes courage—a core IPPF value—and reflects the spirit of those defending SRHRJ under challenging conditions. The awards align with IPPF’s “Come Together” strategy, highlighting efforts that drive inclusion, access, and social justice.

Award Categories

There are five award categories for 2025:

  • Courageous Volunteer Champion
  • Courageous Youth Champion
  • Courageous Member Association (MA) Staff Champion
  • Courageous Member Association Champion
  • Courageous Champion – Strategic Partners (Individual or Organization)

Note: At the discretion of the IPPF Board of Trustees, posthumous awards may be conferred to honor outstanding SRHRJ contributions made within three years prior to the nominee’s death, even outside these five categories.

All awards in 2025 will focus on broadening access, promoting inclusion, and reaching the marginalized.

Recognition and Prizes

Awardees will receive:

  • An IPPF Courage Award Trophy
  • A Certificate of Recognition with full citation, signed by the IPPF Board Chairperson and Director-General
  • A dedicated two-minute video tribute and opportunity to speak at the awards ceremony
  • Awardees will be profiled on the IPPF website, featured in a global press release, and highlighted on IPPF social media platforms for wider visibility.

Nomination Process

Nominations are open to all Member Associations, volunteers, and staff, including secretariat staff. While multiple nominations are allowed, only one winner per category will be selected.

Key guidelines:

  • Awards are merit-based.
  • Youth nominees may be older than 25, provided the nominated work was done at or before age 25 and within the last three years.
  • Posthumous nominations are accepted within three years of death.
  • Previously unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated.
  • Accreditation status of a Member Association may influence outcome of nomination.

Deadline for nominations: August 31, 2025

Nominations should clearly explain why the nominee’s contribution is outstanding within the selected category, providing relevant evidence and context. Nomination forms may be obtained from the Regional Offices.

The IPPF Courage Awards 2025 aim to honor those who lead with strength and conviction in the fight for sexual and reproductive rights—serving as a source of inspiration within and beyond the Federation.
